What You Will Learn?

  • Finding Presence: Exploring your home through the art of cyanotype..
  • This class is an introduction to the art of cyanotype photography. This class is designed for you to be able to use this historic photographic process from the comfort of your own home. You can do this using your kitchen table. Once you have the basic materials in place you're ready to go!  .
  • You don't need any prior experience of this technique. It's easy to learn and an exciting process to take further by experimenting with different objects to 'photograph'.  You do not need access to a darkroom or any specialist photographic equipment.  The beauty of this process, first developed in 1848 is that the exposure of the photographic print is made through sunlight!  .
  • So it's a great process to be able to use both inside and outside your home.  You can use any different sizes of watercolour paper and only need the cyanotype solution and some brushes to get started..
  • Please have a look at the materials list before you get started as you'll need these things in place before you can start making photographs..
  • You can also get your kids involved! It's a fun way for them to learn how to make an 'imprint' or 'sun print' as they are often know..
  • Enjoy!.
  • What you will have at the end of the project.
  • You will have a variety of photographic prints from different objects you have collected yourself from inside or outside your home. You will have a set of artworks you can frame for your own home, or give to friends and family. You'll have learnt a new skill which is versatile to use at home and which you can develop further by experimenting with different objects..
