Our Class Project

What You Will Learn?

  • What is Flower Pounding?.
  • Flower Pounding is an ancient Japanese technique called Tataki Zome. Tataki Zome is all about pounding flowers & botanicals with an hammer to create prints with the natural dyes that come out from flowers & plants onto fabric and paper..
  • Who is this Class for?.
  • A very easy, satisfying and fun class suitable for all beginners comfortable with holding a light weight hammer and great for young children to create (under parental supervision & hammering done by parents)..
  • Are you a designer, art director, a student, an avid crafter or someone who wants to unleash their creativity, or someone who just wants to learn an ancient art expression and take it further.....this Class is for you! .
  • Why should you take this Class?.
  • This Class is going to show you how you can take an ancient technique like flower pounding and transfer it onto your personal projects, like your everyday Wall Art Decor, Art Journals, Junk Journaling, Greeting Cards, Gift Tags and Book marks, Table Napkins, Tea Towels and more..
  • Your Inner Creativity will be satisfied taking this Class..
  • This ancient technique is so relevant today that you won't stop flower pounding after this class. .
  • In this class we will:.
  •  * Create several varieties of Pounded Floral Wall Art Decor for your home, office or event so you don't need to spend exuberant amounts of money to decorate your walls.
  •  * Create Floral Birthday Cards.
  •  * Create Bookmarks.
  •  * Create Gift Tags.
  •  * Create one of a kind Table Napkins & Tea Towels.
  •  * Also, we'll do an experiment together to test out this Ancient Flower Pounding technique onto Clothing, for example like on a white t-shirt or white cotton/linen shirt. And I'll share my results with you in the end..
  • Why Is this Class Easy to do & What Supplies Do You Need?.
  • This Class is so easy to do because first of all you don't need a lot of supplies to create amazing projects..
  • All you'll need is:.
  • * a good sturdy hammer ( that's comfortable for your hands) .
  • * a sturdy surface to pound on for eg. on a cutting board.
  • * Vibrant Coloured Flower Petals    ( there are 300,000+  flower petals in the world, so you won't run out of flower dyes...neither in Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter ) This Class is versatile for any season of the year..
  • * 100% Cotton Fabric (which is easily available at any fabric store).
  • *Paper:  .
  • - There are several options for paper like card stock (which is a heavier stock paper).
  • - watercolour paper.
  • - Plain paper stock (depending on your project).
  • * Plastic ( in the form of a container cut out creating a heavier plastic piece OR just simply replacing this plastic with PAPER TOWEL which works equally as well).
  • * Envelope ( we also pounded flowers onto an envelope as well ).
  • * A small piece of cardboard for eg. a Starbucks Coffee sleeve.
  • * Pencil.
  • * Eraser.
  • * Scissors.
  • * Hole Punch.
  • * Glue (double sided adhesive, glue gun or glue stick).
  • * Masking Tape.
  • * Pre cut Bookmark and Pre cut Gift Tag.     (which you can easily create yourself at home, if you can't find it ready made anywhere else) I used premade ones found at a craft store .
  • * A couple of empty Photo Frames to place your work in....you don't have to buy a new frame as you can even reuse the ones that have at home.
  • * Cotton Napkins or Cotton Tea Towel.
  • * Ribbons or Bakers Twine ( this will be used for our bookmark so you don't need a lot ).
  • * Green Acrylic Paint ( either light or dark green) we will only use a small amount .
  • Is this Class satisfying and at the same time a stress reliever?.
  • Absolutely! This Class satisfies your creativity to create something special, one of a kind artwork that's different from everyone else's and unique & special only to you!  .
  • At the same time, this Class is relaxing to do as your satisfaction in creating a unique project is instant as you see the results appear immediately in front of your eyes. Hammering flower petals is a great stress reliever as it boosts your mood and relaxes you..
  • This is a great way to decorate your home space and personal projects..
  • I look forward to be seeing you in this class to create with me using this ancient Japanese technique of Flower Pounding..
