What You Will Learn?

  • Ice Dyeing is a beautiful alternative to tie dye.  Ice Dyeing uses fiber reactive (or procion dyes).  This is the same kind of dye as for traditional tie dye, but you use melting ice instead of water.  The ice will slowly mix with the dye and drips onto your t-shirt.  This will give your t-shirt a really beautiful pattern as the dye hits the fabric at different times and with different intensities.  I explain the concept behind ice dyeing and then show you step by step instructions how to create the class project: an ice dyed t-shirt.  .
  • Students will learn what supplies they need, how to fold their t-shirt, how to set up the dye tray, and washing instructions. This class is at beginner level and is good for anyone who enjoys dyeing, arts and crafts, and diy fashion.  This class demonstrates one way of ice dyeing and also discusses multiple variations that one can explore.  .
  • Catherine Ruhl is a textile designer and YouTuber.  She enjoys dyeing, sewing, and textile arts.  She has taught shibori dyeing classes in person and online for years.  .
