What You Will Learn?

  • Critiquing your work is one of the most important things you can do to become a better artist, illustrator, graphic designer, or creator. Let’s get critical with our work without the self-loathing, self-hating, my-work-is-terrible narrative. .
  • When you’re creating a new project, feedback from others is invaluable whether it's an illustration, graphic design, or fine art piece. They can help you get unstuck or point out something you didn’t see before. They can be a roadmap to your next steps. But feedback from others isn’t always available and you have to be your own critic while leaving your own beliefs and attachments to your work at the door. Having the skills to look at your work critically and be your own editor will lead to stronger work that meets your definition of a success..
  • This class is aimed at creatives (artists, surface pattern designers, graphic designers, illustrators, etc.) who want to improve their work, but don’t have a team of art directors and coaches on standby to offer their critical feedback. You can use this class simply to create better work (whatever that means to you), improve your portfolio, or figure out where to go next if you’re stuck in the middle of a project..
  • I’ll walk you through what I look for in editing my own work and how to put it into practice. This includes defining what my goal is for a sample piece of work, applying existing guidelines like the Principles of Art and Design as a lens to look at a piece of work, and tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way. I’ll also provide helpful checklists for applying this process to your own work..
  • Nothing can replace getting another person's eyes on your work, so you’ll also learn how to ask for feedback from friends and family who may not be experts in art and design, but can give you important insights. I’ll show you how to guide people to give you feedback that’s productive (a.k.a stuff you can actually use).
  • By the end of this class you will be able to:.
