What You Will Learn?
- Slow stitching is a process of pulling thread through fabric with repeated stitches with minimal planning, lots of spontaneous decisions, and completely unique results. It’s about the process of taking your time and creating something unique using fabric and thread, and anything you can sew down to the project! A mandala is an art form, filled with geometric shapes and patterns, where the creation is meditative. What happens when we combine the process of slow stitching with the beauty and form of a mandala? That’s the concept we’ll explore in today’s class. We’ll make a beautiful 5” square stitched mandala, inspired by the textures, colors, and elements of autumn. The results can be subtle, bold, organic, and perfectly imperfect..
- Class is based around stitches (back stitch, split stitch, & the straight stitch) and techniques (appliqué and couching) that complement the circular nature of a mandala. Best of all, you choose your favorite materials to create this project. I chose autumnal colors of rusts, oranges, and browns, but you are not limited by that. Select colors that suit your style..
