- Welcome to this Total Beginner's Walkthrough on Lingerie Sewing!In this class we will cover every detail to create a solid base of knowledge about lingerie for your journey in sewing. With my guidance you will create a beautiful lingerie set that will work as a formula to sew many more undies and bralettes.If you are familiar with the cinematic masterpiece that is The Sound of Music, then you are familiar with a great teaching by Fraulien Maria "when you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything" and I want this class to be exactly like that. When you know the notes (in this case, the tools, materials and techniques) to sew, you can sew most anything, I will share with you the basis and "notes" so you can mix them all up and create anything you wish.I like to start with a bit of theory and then move towards practical exercises and examples to really understand the formula to lingerie, so you’ll be able to replicate the knowledge into different sewing patterns.While sewing a lingerie set as the main class project you’ll learn about elastics, the history of lingerie, what pieces make up a bralette and undies, and how is it they fit snuggly to our body, amongst many other things detailed below in the class outline. - If you are looking to fine tune your sewing skills (lingerie requires more precision and patience) - If you want to dive right into the elastic arena with a fun project - If you wish to understand how ease and fit affects a garment - If you want to know which fabrics, elastics and tools work best for lingerie - If you dream of a wardrobe full of pretty lingerieThis class is for you!.
- _Class Outline- Class Intro Getting to know me and why I love to sew + what we'll learn in this class- Project & Tools Quick overview of all the materials we will discuss in full detail during the class.- Lesson: A Brief History of Lingerie A timeline of key fashion moments that brought us to the bralette and undies we'll be sewing today- Lesson: Anatomy of a Bra In this lesson we will learn about all aspects & pieces that make up a bralette- Lesson: Anatomy of Underwear For this lesson we will learn about all aspects & pieces in undies- Lesson: Tools - Sewing Machine, Needles, Thread We will learn about these very relevant tools to sew a succesful garment- Lesson: Stretchy Fabric We will learn what stretch is, how to identify it, its direction, and percentage of.- Lesson: Material - Fabrics, Trims and Findings Naming, describing and identifying fabrics and trims most commonly used in lingerie- Lesson: Tools for Cutting Learn tools and tricks to easily cut lingerie fabric, known for being shifty, slippery and delicate- Exercise: Applying Stretch Learn how to succesfully sew the 2 most basic types of elastic in lingerie.- Excercise: Measurements and Ease Learn how to take proper measurements of your body + what negative ease is- Class Project Intro Quick overview of the main class project + how to print the PDF Sewing Pattern- Class Project: Preparing Pattern & Cutting we'll learn to add seam allowances and cut our fabric- Class Project: Sewing the Bralette part. 1 We assemble the cups and band while learning the difference between straight and zig-zag stitch- Class Project: Sewing the Bralette part. 2 We finish the first part of our lingerie set with elastics and straps- Class Project: Sewing the Undies We assemble and sew our comfy undies to complete the set.- Final Thoughts / Thank You.
